They told me I was too fat to be a Model

An average size woman in the United States wears a size 14. In the modeling world the average woman should wear a size 6, and if you don’t they will send you packing. That’s exactly what the model world did to Angelica Gray. She’s a 19 year-old model who was turned away by the mainstream modeling industry because she was “too fat”. One agency went as far as to say that her chances of landing a campaign are about the same as winning the lottery! Despite the negativity Gray is now an international sensation and nominated the Scottish Model of the Year 2010. I’m so happy that she didn’t through her dreams away just because she didn’t fix someone else’s standards. I feel that the modeling industry give women and young girls the wrong message about body image. Young girls nowadays believe that you have to be a size 1 to be accepted and liked in this world. I feel that models like Gray, Barbara Brickner, and Natalie Laughlin should be held up as role models because they look and portray a healthy body image.
