First Women to Serve on Submarines by 2012

While I was surfing the internet today I came across an interesting article from the Assoicated Press. The article was about how the first U.S women will be allowed to serve aboard submarines will be reporting for duty in 2012. The Navy said it was ordered by the military to lift the ban in order to end this gender barrier. I'm amazed and sadden that it took the Navy and America this long to allow women to work and aboard submarines. After reading the article I found that people are worried about the potential sexual misconduct and unexpected pregnancies, but I feel that this is a cop out just to hold women back. The Navy has allowed women to serve on all surface ships since 1994 so why should submarines be any different. Women and men are allow to go to war together, allowed to ship on Naval ship together and are allowed to die together. All the problems and issues stemming from intergrating women on to submarines are not womens fault. I beyieve the first step needed to intergrate women on to submarines is to education Navy men on how to respect women. I feel that issues of temptation and sexual harassment would not be a big issue if both parties involved know what is expected of them, but women should not be held back from being on submarines for any of these reasons. I personal feel that the Navy should have never ban women from workforce because they should want the best of the best to be apart of their staff.
